Are you an employer? Do you find employment law confusing?
Who could blame you for there is a plethora of acts, statutory instruments, regulations, common law obligations, health and safety responsibilities with which you have to deal.
The Workplace Relations Commission published a handy “Employer’s Record Log” in January 2020 which I have just come across on Twitter today.
It gives you an employer’s checklist to ensure you are in compliance with employment law in Ireland.
It also contains some excellent templates to keep an eye on the vital information about your employees, basic information about your obligations to give a statement of core terms of employment, a sample written statement of ‘core’ terms of employment in accordance with the terms of Employment (Information) act, 1994 and 2001 and the Employment (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2018, and guidance as to how to complete the statement of core terms.
It also gives information about the Organisation of Working Time Act, 1997 and a couple of templates to allow you record the number of hours worked each week by employee and to record their rest breaks.
If you are an employer and you download this Employer’s Record Log and use it you will be in good shape as to many of your day to day obligations to your employees.
You will also be well placed to successfully defend yourself against some of the most common claims employers face from employees in the Workplace Relations Commission.
